You Propped Up the Bed. You Stopped Eating after 6. It Still Wakes You Up.
You've done everything the internet told you to do — and your reflux still shows up at 2 a.m. That's not a discipline problem. Nighttime reflux is its own distinct problem, and it needs one thing the habits can't give you: a barrier that works while you're lying down. That's what RefluxRaft was built for.

The Habits Help. They Just Can't Finish the Job.
Earlier dinners, an elevated bed, sleeping on your left side — these are real, evidence-backed steps, and if you're doing them, keep doing them. But they all work the same way: by reducing the opportunity for reflux. None of them closes the actual gap.
Here's the gap: when you lie down, gravity stops holding stomach contents below the valve that keeps them in — and during sleep, you swallow less and make less saliva, so any acid that escapes lingers far longer than it would during the day. You can't control your posture while unconscious, and you can't swallow on purpose while asleep. That's why nighttime reflux persists even for people doing everything right — and why it needs a physical barrier that's in place before you close your eyes.

Signs you're fighting nighttime reflux — even with good habits:
- You elevated the bed and cut late meals, and still wake up burning
- A sour or bitter taste when you wake up
- Morning hoarseness or a raw throat
- Coughing or choking sensations at night
- The antacid that works at lunch doesn't last until morning
- Feeling unrested even after a full night in bed

THE SCIENCE, SIMPLY EXPLAINED
What's Actually Happening at Night — and How to Address It
Your Stomach May Still Be Full at Lights-Out
Late meals, larger portions, or slower digestion mean stomach contents are still sitting there when you lie down — level with the valve that's supposed to keep them in.
Lying Flat Removes the Mechanical Advantage
Upright, gravity holds acid down. Horizontal, stomach contents sit directly against the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Any relaxation of that valve, and acid moves upward.
Your Body Clears Acid More Slowly During Sleep
You swallow less and make less saliva overnight, so acid that reaches the esophagus lingers longer — which is why nighttime reflux tends to disturb sleep and irritate tissue more than daytime episodes.
MidnightBerry PM
Take Midnight Berry PM about 30 minutes before bed
- A natural raft forms on top of stomach contents. The kelp-derived gel creates a physical barrier that floats between stomach acid and the esophagus — positioned to block backflow even when you're horizontal.
- Acid and enzymes are blocked from traveling upward. Whether your reflux is acidic or non-acidic, the raft works as a physical shield — not by suppressing acid production.
- Melatonin supports your natural sleep cycle. 1 mg per serving — a modest amount to help you get restful sleep, not to sedate — while functional ingredients help coat and protect the esophageal lining.

Dr. James Daniero, MD, board-certified ENT specialist and RefluxRaft co-founder
"Nighttime reflux isn't just daytime reflux at a different hour — it's a mechanically different problem. Lying flat, you lose gravity, and asleep, you lose the swallowing that clears acid. No amount of acid suppression restores either one. What can work while you sleep is a physical barrier: an alginate raft that floats on top of stomach contents and blocks them from rising, no gravity required. That's why we built a formula specifically for bedtime."

NIGHTTIME REFLUX, ANSWERED
Your Questions, Answered by the ENT Founders
Melatonin is best known for regulating the sleep-wake cycle, and there is emerging clinical research on its role in reflux. In a study published in BMC Gastroenterology (Kandil et al., 2010), melatonin — alone and combined with omeprazole — was associated with improvement in GERD symptoms over an 8-week course.
An honest caveat: those studies generally used 5–6 mg of melatonin, a higher amount than what's in most sleep-support supplements. The takeaway isn't "melatonin is a reflux drug" — it's that melatonin's well-established role in deeper, more restful sleep is valuable for anyone whose reflux disrupts their nights. In Midnight Berry PM, the alginate raft does the reflux-barrier work; the 1 mg of melatonin supports the sleep half of the problem.
The treatments differ for the same reason. Acid suppression reduces acid production, which serves GERD well. LPR symptoms are frequently driven by the non-acid components of reflux, especially pepsin — which is why ENT specialists often look beyond acid suppression to approaches that block the backflow itself, like alginate raft therapy.
For nighttime symptoms, the most useful supplement is one that combines a reflux barrier that works lying down with support for restful sleep — because the two problems compound each other. That's the gap RefluxRaft Midnight Berry PM was designed to fill: Enhanced Alginate Therapy to help keep stomach contents down overnight, plus 1 mg of melatonin to support your natural sleep cycle. It's low-sodium, sugar-free, vegan, and non-systemic.
Pair the standard habits — last meal 3 hours before bed, head of bed elevated 6–8 inches, left-side sleeping — with a non-systemic barrier before bed. The habits lower the odds of an episode; an alginate raft blocks the ones that happen anyway. If the habits alone haven't worked, the barrier is the missing piece.
Same proven raft barrier as Lemon Ginger and Berry Burst, formulated for bedtime with 1 mg of melatonin. Daytime formulas after meals, Midnight Berry PM before bed for full coverage.
Sleeping on your left side with the head of the bed elevated is most associated with reduced nighttime reflux. Avoid lying flat or on your right side.
At least 3 hours. Late meals leave more in the stomach to reflux when you lie down.
Alginate is a food-derived fiber generally well tolerated for daily use, and before bed is one of the most common times to take it. Check with your provider if you're pregnant, on a sodium-restricted diet, or take medications.
It contains 1 mg of melatonin to support your natural sleep cycle — a modest amount intended to help with restful sleep, not to sedate.
Melatonin is widely used and generally well tolerated. The reflux-specific research is still emerging, and the studied doses were higher than what's in most sleep supplements, so talk with your provider about what's right for you.
RefluxRaft is non-systemic and compatible with most medications, including PPIs. As always, check with your provider about your specific regimen.
